Syria: America’s Response

In light of the implications surrounding how the United States is dealing with the conflict in Syria, members of the HWS faculty will convene for a panel discussion titled, “Syria: America’s Response?” on Thursday, Sept. 12 in Albright Auditorium. The on-campus event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. and members of the public are invited to attend.

Organized by Professor of Public Policy and Political Science Craig Rimmerman, the discussion will feature faculty from across academic disciplines. The panelists will include Associate Professor of Political Science Kevin Dunn, Professor of Philosophy Steven Lee, Professor of History Derek Linton, Professor of Political Science David Ost, and Professor of Media and Society Linda Robertson.

“It should be a terrific event for our entire community on such an important set of issues for our country and the world,” says Rimmerman, who will moderate the discussion.

The ongoing conflict in Syria has drawn particular attention around the world in recent weeks with media reports of an alleged use of chemical weapons on civilians. In light of the situation, the United States has been weighing in on plausible involvement.

At the discussion, each panelist will be given an opportunity to offer his or her perspective on the subject. The event also will include a question-and-answer segment with the audience, providing students and community members an opportunity to weigh in on the dialogue.

Rimmerman says the discussion will bring together the HWS community and members of the public for a conversation about tough and timely issues. He says the panel also will be a chance to introduce first-year students to the important, intellectual exchanges that occur at the Colleges.

The panel discussion will be broadcast live on WEOS 89.7 fm and 90.3 fm and streamed live at
