IT, Library staffers present at conference

GENEVA – Three members of the Hobart and William Smith Colleges staff presented at the 27th annual conference of the New York State Library Assistants’ Association, June 8-10 at the Ramada Inn Geneva Lakefront.

Jeff DeVuyst, lead technical support specialist; and Kathryn Frederick, electronic services librarian, presented “Inside Your PC,” exploring the inside of a PC and teaching the names of the cables and components, to help participants the next time they need to call the “help desk.”

Sara Greenleaf, associate librarian for technical services, spoke on “Cataloging: Information that Everyone Should Know,” reviewing the importance of cataloging and organizing information, components of the cataloging process and the resources available.

Frederick also showed a video of the evolution of computing from Charles Babbage’s Difference Engine Number 1 thru present day computers.
