The William Smith cross country team finished sixth out of 12 teams at the Oswego Invitational. Junior Avery Share led the Herons across the finish line for the second week in a row.
Share completed the 5-kilometer course in a career-best time of 20:27.5 to take 38th place out of the 162 runners. Sophomore Ellen Grenen also notched a career-best 5k time, finishing right behind Share in 39th place in 20:30.9. First-year Mary Kubinski bested her time from last week, crossing the finish in 20:32.2 to take 43rd place. Senior Meghan Gaucher clocked a time of 20:45.9 to come in 53rd and first-year Katie Pinkes also improved on her 5k time from last week, claiming 66th place in 20:59.8.
Cortland’s Emily Cotey earned the victory with a time of 18:40.0. Ithaca captured the team title with 26 points. The Red Dragons finished second with 43 points, and Rochester rounded out the top three with 77 points.
The Herons will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they compete in the Yellowjacket Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. at 11 a.m.
