Applications are now available for the Day on the Hill program that will take place this winter, Jan. 8 through 10. For the eighth consecutive year, HWS students have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to mingle with politicians, alums and friends of the Colleges to learn about the inner workings of life in our nation’s capital.
The upcoming program will be led by Associate Professor of Political Science DeWayne Lucas and Professor of Political Science Iva Deutchman, in conjunction with the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development. Fifteen to 20 students are chosen to participate. Applications are available at the Salisbury Center in Trinity Hall and are due by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 25. All years and majors are welcome to apply for the program.
Over the three-day trip, students attend talks by politicians and alums who work on the Hill, visiting sites that include The Brookings Institute, Congressional members, the U.S. Secret Service, Democratic National Committee, The Heritage Foundation and The Washington Post. Overall, students get to see the day-to-day happenings in the nation’s capital and learn what it takes to get a job or internship there.
A mandatory meeting for accepted students will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5.
