Senior goalie Chelsea Dunay was named the ECAC Upstate Division III Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week after stopping every shot she faced in a 2-0-0 weekend for the Herons.
Dunay played 173:30 in goal and made a total of five saves as the Herons shut out two nationally-ranked foes on their way to capturing the Upstate Collegiate Cup last weekend. On Saturday, Dunay played the opening 83:30 and turned aside the only shot she faced in William Smith’s 3-0 victory over then No. 25 Rochester. On Sunday, Dunay played all 90 minutes and made four saves to earn her second shutout of the season with a 1-0 win over then No. 5 Ithaca.
Both of Dunay’s shutouts have come against teams that were ranked in the top five in the nation. Her first came in a 1-0 victory over then No. 1 Messiah back on Sept. 7. Dunay has not surrendered a goal in her last 341:28 in goal. She ranks third in the Liberty League in saves with 18 this season. Dunay is sporting a 0.81 goals against average and a .818 save percentage.
The Herons (4-1-0) will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 21 when they travel to Fredonia for a non-league match at 2 p.m. Fans unable to make the game can follow the action online with Live Stats and Live Video.
