Laura VanNiel, health professions counselor, will be one of the instructors at the MASH Camp, July 25-29, with the staff at Geneva General Hospital.
Medical Academy of Science and Health (MASH) campers must be rising 7th or 8th graders, and will have sessions from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hospital on North Street in Geneva. The $55 fee includes lunch, snack and materials.
Highlights will include certification in American Red Cross basic first aid, a 3-lead telemetry fitness lab, deer heart dissection, an activity with long-term care facility residents, taking a patient's vital signs, intubating a mannequin, using a spirometer to measure lung capacity, observing trauma treatment in the ER, visiting the pathology lab and other departments, including pharmacy, nutritional services, dialysis, radiology, the Family Birth Center, cardiac rehab, and rehabilitation and surgical services.
Students will learn a lot about science, health, the human body and hopefully develop an interest in making healthy choices and seeking health care careers. Registration is limited, so enroll your son or daughter early.
Val Gunter’s daughter participated last summer and Val (from the WS dean's office) has offered to talk to parents of interested students.
