PIR Talk Focuses on Gen Re Careers

Michael Barrett, a senior underwriter at General Re, one of the world’s leading property/casualty and life/health reinsurers, will discuss careers available at the company as part of the semester’s Professional in Residence series on Thursday, Oct. 17. Barrett’s talk will take place at 7:30 p.m. in Trinity Hall 305. All majors are welcome to attend and pizza will be provided.

The following day, on Friday, Oct. 18, Barrett will conduct interviews in Trinity 109 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for students interested in holding an internship at General Re. Available positions offer experience in marketing, consulting, financial analysis, sales and client relationship management. Accepted students will be notified by e-mail.

With locations in major cities such as New York, Boston or Atlanta, General Re provides reinsurance solutions in all segments of the insurance industry. Because much of its services are sales-oriented and consumer-driven, Gen Re seeks to recruit proactive problem-solvers who have the ability to attract clients and develop connections.

Barrett joined General Re as an underwriter trainee in 2008 at the company’s New York office. He also completed three months of global underwriting training at Gen Re’s Jump School in Chicago following his graduation from Bucknell, where he was a double major in economics and psychology.

The Professionals in Residence Series is sponsored by the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development.
