Linda Pilgrim '92 of Boston recently co-founded Kalyx Designs, a jewelry and accessories design company, with artist/designer Katherine Miller.
One of their necklaces made of Indian peridot and facetted briolettes with gold-plated bronze beads was included in a summer fashion spread in the July issue of Boston magazine.
Other pieces are made from amazonite, coral, onyx, freshwater pearls and abalone shell.
Some of the firm's necklaces are produced in India, and the founders say their plan is to find ways to help the communities where their pieces are made. They say they are following the model developed at Edun, the clothing design company started by Bono and his wife.
The necklaces are available online at www.kalyxdesigns.net, and in boutiques in Boston and Nantucket, with more retail outlets being added.
