The William Smith College soccer team moved up one spot to No. 3 in both national polls this week. It’s the highest ranking of the year for the Herons in both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and the D3soccer.com polls.
William Smith secured its 13th straight victory, defeating Clarkson 1-0 on Saturday. With the win the Herons improve to 13-1-0 overall and 7-0-0 in the conference and earned their seventh consecutive Liberty League regular season title.
William Smith ranks fourth in the nation with a .786 shutout percentage and fifth with a .929 winning percentage. The Herons are 13th in Division III in goals against average (0.43) and 22nd in save percentage (.875). William Smith sits atop the Liberty League in points (98), goals (34), assists (30), and shutouts (11). The Herons are tied for first in the league in goals allowed.
First-year Kara Shue and junior Madeline Buckley lead the team with 18 points each. Shue has produced five goals and a team high eight assists. Buckley has chipped in a team-high seven goals and added four assists. Senior goalie Chelsea Dunay ranks 13th in the nation with a 0.43 goals against average. She’s also sporting a .872 save percentage.
