A talk about two books written by Artist Sarah Bryant of Big Jump Press was held on Friday, Nov. 29 in Houghton House. The two books, “Biography” (2010) and “Fond” (2012) are dedicated to subjects that can be interpreted in personal, intimate ways as well as offering a broader, abstracted view of systems and behavior.
“Biography” is an examination of the chemical elements in the human body and the roles they play elsewhere in the world. “Fond” is an investigation of memory and archive as manifested by small, valueless objects that individuals collect and preserve. These objects, casually assembled over the course of yeas, serve as an information retrieval system and an emotional bank.
This talk was generously supported by the Dave Davis ’48 Gallery Funds.
