Johnson Serves on Panel at National Conference of Black Political Scientists

Cedric Johnson, assistant professor of political science, served as discussant for a panel on black community organizing at the 31st annual meeting of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists. This year's conference was held March 6 though 9 in Atlanta, Ga., under the theme, “Interdisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Black Politics.” The black community organizing panel featured papers on grass-roots participation in Detroit's urban empowerment zone initiative; Old and New Left organizing approaches and their relevance to contemporary political conditions; and analysis of Shaw v. Reno and the impact of Congressional redistricting on black representation.
