Call Security to Perform at Turning Stone

Call Security, a band comprised of five HWS students, is participating in a “College Battle of the Bands” competition at 8 p.m. on Thursday, March 27 in Rome, N.Y. The event will be held at Turning Stone Resort Casino’s vintage rock and roll club, The Gig.

The Battle of the Bands competition is open to all members of the public ages 18 and older, with an admission fee of $10 for those 18 to 20 years old. Admission is free for those ages 21 and over.

Members of Call Security include Peter Keller ’15 on bass, Tucker Jennings ’14 on drums, Kathryn Middleton ’14 on keyboard, Michelle Poulin ’15 on guitar, and Ben Scheibel ’14 on vocals. The band released a six-song EP in 2013, which is now available on iTunes.

Call Security will face competition from groups from Le Moyne College, Ithaca College, SUNY Oneonta, Binghamton University, SUNY New Paltz, Nazareth College and Fulton-Montgomery Community College. Each band will have about 30 minutes to perform their set for a panel of judges from the local music scene.

The performing bands submitted audition tapes in order to make it to the competition.  They are competing for cash prizes, including $1,000 for first place, $500 for second place and $250 for third place. There will also be an additional $250 prize for the audience-voted “Fan Favorite” band.

Call Security, inspired by the likes of Blink 182, the Killers, and Mumford and Sons, formed in 2011 and has played numerous shows at Hobart and William Smith, highlighted by its performance as the opening act for Passion Pit at the Smith Opera House in May of 2012. Call Security has also previously performed at Saratoga Performing Arts Center’s Battle of the Bands, which led them to Webster Hall in New York City.
