The Hobart and William Smith College sailing team competed in two regattas over the weekend, taking second place in the MAISA Team Race Challenge, which it hosted on Seneca Lake. Heron sailors also took part in the Dellenbaugh Women’s Trophy in Providence, R.I.
With its second place finish on Seneca Lake, HWS earned a spot in the Prosser Trophy, next weekend April 5-6 in Annapolis, Md. The top two teams in the MAISA Team Challenge advance to the Prosser Trophy. The Colleges posted a 6-1 overall in the team race record. HWS earned wins over Columbia, George Washington, Kings Point, N.Y. Maritime, Buffalo and Washington College. Sophomores Eddie Cox and William Godfrey, as well as junior Elliott Morrill were the skippers and sophomore Allison Aughtry as well as seniors Jane Rew and Julia Oak made up the crew.
In Rhode Island, William Smith finished in 15th place. Seniors Arielle deLisser and Adele Huffine sailed to a 12th place finish in the A Division. The pair posted four top five finishes, including coming in second place in their final race. In the B Division, senior Brooke Lyon and first-year Erin Condon finished in 17th place.
HWS will be back on the water April 5-6, when it competes in the Prosser Trophy in Annapolis, Md.
