The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team competed in the Truxtun Umsted and the Thompson Trophy over the weekend. In Annapolis, Md., HWS claimed seventh at the Truxtun Umsted and the Colleges placed 18th at the Thompson Trophy in New London, Conn.
In Annapolis, sophomore Eddie Cox and seniors Jane Rew and Julia Oak took eighth place in the A Division, finishing in the top five four times. Junior Elliott Morrill, Oak and first-year Adam Schaefer came in second place in the B Division. They registered five top three finishes, including two wins. In the C Division, first-year Sean Burke finished 12th after a head-to-head tie breaker with SUNY Maritime. Senior Arielle deLisser took fifth in the D Division after a head-to-head tie breaker with Tufts. deLisser logged seven top five finishes including two victories.
In New London, Conn., sophomore Chris Wilson and first-year Kristina Weston took 17th in the A Division and first-years Scott Calnan and Diana Weston placed 18th in the B Division. In the C Division, first-year Christine Moloney and senior Marnie Merrill finished in 16th place.
HWS will be back on the water April 19-20, when it competes in the Admiral’s Cup in Kings Point, N.Y, and in the Greater New York Dinghy in Bronx, N.Y. William Smith sailors will also be competing at the MAISA Women’s Spring Dinghy in Ithaca, N.Y., next weekend.
