President Mark D. Gearan will be the first guest of “Connections with Evan Dawson,” a new radio show WEOS-FM 89.5 is launching in the Finger Lakes on Monday, April 28. The live two-hour call-in talk show is produced by WXXI in Rochester, N.Y., and covers a vast array of topics including regional issues such as fracking, education, agriculture, and the wine industry, as well as art, politics and health. Dawson has been hosting Connections since early January, having previously served as morning anchor for 13WHAM news. His live interview with Gearan will air from 12 to 1 p.m. on Monday. They will discuss increasing public service initiatives and other issues relevant to higher education.
“Thanks to the support of WEOS and Hobart and William Smith Colleges, I look forward to expanding the reach of Connections into the Finger Lakes,” says Dawson. “The issues covered on my show are important to everyone in Upstate New York and include a wide range of topics from environmental and agricultural policy to current events and the wine industry. I am confident WEOS listeners will be eager to join the conversation beginning April 28.”
In addition to Dawson’s interview with Gearan, the show’s first week on WEOS-FM will feature what some of the leading winemakers think about the increasing critical buzz for the region; a panel discussion on the values of overnight summer camps in Western N.Y.; and the latest updates on fracking.
Gearan has served as president of Hobart and William Smith since 1999. He is one of the nation’s leading experts on the intersection of higher education and civic engagement, serving as chair of the Talloires Network Steering Committee, co-chair of the National Advisory Board on Public Service at Harvard College, board member of the Commission on Independent Colleges and Universities, and a former Board member of The Partnership for Public Service and the Corporation for National and Community Service.
With extensive credentials in public policy, he served as Director of the Peace Corps and was Assistant to the President, Director of Communications and Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House.
