“Riding the Mystical Chariot: Exploring Mysticism in Song,” will be presented at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 23 at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Genesee at Lewis streets.
The Syracuse Vocal Ensemble, with Robert Cowles, artistic director, will be featured. Cowles is chairman of the music department at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.
The program will be “a meditation on the intersection of mysticism and modern song: Music by self-professed mystics, including John Tavener, Arvo Pärt and Einojuhani Rautavaara, as well as choral texts by historic mystical poets, including St. John of the Cross and Rabindranath Tagore.”
Tickets are $8 — $6 for students and senior citizens — and will be available at the door.
The St. Peter's Concert Series is supported in part with public funds from the state Council on the Arts Decentralization Program, administered locally by Finger Lakes Arts Grants and Services Inc.
