Hobart and William Smith Colleges will host the Fourth Annual Upstate New York Undergraduate Research Conference on Saturday, Sept. 20. Undergraduate summer research students and faculty from institutions within the New York Six Liberal Arts Consortium and other undergraduate schools in the Upstate New York region are invited to participate in this conference, which takes place on campus from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The aim of the conference is to provide undergraduate students with the opportunity to present their work in a variety of disciplines at a professional meeting – without the barriers of long-distance travel costs. It is also an excellent opportunity for faculty in the region to meet one another, foster collaborations, and share the work that is being completed by undergraduate students in their research labs.
At the conference, students will have the opportunity to present their research as either a 12-minute oral presentation or as a poster presentation. Oral presentations will take place as concurrent sessions that are organized by discipline. Poster presentations will take place over a two-hour period with the opportunity for students to present during one hour and to interact with other presenters in the other hour.
In addition to Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the New York Six Consortium consists of Colgate University, Hamilton College, Skidmore College, St. Lawrence University and Union College. The consortium seeks to facilitate collaboration among members in fulfilling educational missions, serving the public good, and enhancing options for students, faculty and staff.
Any questions about the conference can be directed to the Associate Provost at HWS, Christine de Denus at deDenus@hws.edu.
