The Hobart College soccer team scored a goal in each half to top St. John Fisher 2-0 in a non-conference game played in Pittsford, N.Y., tonight. The Statesmen notched their third straight shutout and improve to 3-1-0.
The Cardinals fall to 1-4-1 this season. Sophomore Jacob Fox scored his second goal in as many games and senior Kyle Herod added his first goal of the season. Senior goalieMike Lucas played all 90 minutes for Hobart and made four saves. He has not allowed a goal in all 283:05 he has played this season.
The Statesmen took control of the game right away. Just 1:29 into the match, Fox found the back of the net for what proved to be the game-winner. Senior Bernard Abagali set up the play. Herod gave the Statesmen the 2-0 advantage just 3:38 into the second half, capitalizing on a corner. Junior Marco Ronning sent the corner kick into the box, finding Herod right out in front.
Hobart held a 16-12 advantage in shots and an 8-7 edge in corners. Josh Klein played all 90 minutes in goal for St. John Fisher and finished with seven saves.
The Statesmen will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they travel play another non-league game at Rochester at 7 p.m.
