William Smith Blanks Geneseo

The 14th ranked William Smith field hockey team shutout Geneseo State 4-0 this evening.  First-year Hannah Wood paced the Herons scoring two goals for a game-high four points. Sophomore Alessandra Patrizio got the Herons onThe 14th ranked William Smith field hockey team shutout Geneseo State 4-0 this evening.

Sophomore Alessandra Patrizio got the Herons on the board first in the 21st minute scoring off of a penalty corner.  Junior Madison Finn collected a rebound and looped the ball over the Knights goalie Dayna Mercer’s head where all Patrizio had to do was put it in the open net. 
Seven minutes later, Wood beat her defender and found herself all alone in front of the goalie. She buried a shot for her third goal of the year. With two minutes left in the first half, Wood added her second unassisted goal of the game.
She stripped the ball from a defender’s stick on the right side of the cage and fired a shot to the opposite corner to give the Herons a 3-0 lead. In the second-half, sophomore Austen Gillen-Keeney potted her first goal of the season when she redirected a Hannah Wood shot into the net past Mercer.  
Catherine Hare got the start and shutout in goal for William Smith.  Hare made four saves on the night for her fourth career clean sheet. Mercer made six saves.
