The HWS Center for Global Education and the Geneva Sons of Italy Lodge are co-sponsoring “Paradise, Italian Style: A Night of Culture, Entertainment, Food and Wine,” a special event focused on Italian culture and cuisine that will be held at the Smith Center for the Arts in downtown Geneva.
Featuring an Academy Award-winning film, food, music and exhibits, “Paradise, Italian Style” will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 17.
The evening will kick off with a reception in the lobby of the Smith, which will include a live band performance featuring Steve Venuti ’61, as well as tables and exhibits by the Geneva Historical Society, the Geneva Sons of Italy Lodge and the GAIL Sons of Italy Lodge. There will also be a raffle, as well as wine tasting and a spread of appetizers.
The reception will also include a presentation with photos from HWS trips abroad and functions hosted by the Sons of Italy Lodge.
At 7 p.m. following the reception, Angela Calabrese of Geneva will sing famous Italian tunes accompanied by Hilda Collins on the Smith’s Steinway piano.
After the performance, a screening of the Academy Award-winning film “Cinema Paradiso” will take place, with an introduction by HWS Assistant Professor of Italian Sebastiano Lucci. The film will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will include English subtitles.
The event is free for HWS students. Admission is $10 for faculty and staff. All proceeds support the Sons of Italy Scholarship Fund. Attendees are asked to bring their HWS ID. The Smith is located at 30 Seneca St. in downtown Geneva.
