Bauder in PBS special

Ave Bauder ’81, HWS director of Public Service, who portrays a corporal with Reynolds’ Battery L, 1st NY Light Artillery as a Civil War re-enactor, was interviewed in the PBS program, “A Cemetery Special,” which will be broadcast at 10 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31,
on WXXI, Channel 21 from Rochester and WCNY, Channel 24 from Syracuse.

The WXXI program guide describes it as “An idiosyncratic tour of U.S. burial grounds,” by producer-narrator Rick Sebak.

Included are historic sites, cemeteries with interesting landscaping, and the final resting places of notables.

One of the featured places is Waterloo, the Birthplace of Memorial Day. Bauder’s unit provided a living history encampment on Memorial Day weekend, when the production company filmed, and he was asked to talk about the history of Memorial Day.

A native of Waterloo, Bauder has been a Civil War re-enactor for nine years.
