Students interested in pursuing a funded, shorter term opportunity abroad are invited to apply for the Padnos Family International Internship/Research Travel Award. Applications are due to the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education by Friday, Dec. 5 at 4 p.m. The $5,000 award will cover lodging, round-trip airfare and a stipend.
Supported by gifts from the Padnos Family, the annual award supports one Hobart or William Smith student interested in an internship and/or research experience abroad. The award will be completed during winter break of the recipient’s sophomore, junior or senior year and preference will be given to students who are pursuing a “green” experience.
Brandi Ferrara, director of the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education, says the off-campus experience complements a student’s classroom education, making students uniquely prepared for the job market.
“Students who study abroad, even for a short time, gain practical insights and a heightened understanding of the demands and rewards of future careers,” she says.
Upon returning to campus, the student gives a presentation summarizing his or her experience as part of an informational session for potential new applicants, and writes a two-page paper summarizing the experience.
