Hobart College first-year forward Luke Ruddy was named the Liberty League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week by the conference office today. Senior guard Connor Rehbaum was also recognized, earning a spot on the Liberty League’s Weekly Honor Roll.
Ruddy averaged 5.5 ppg and 4.5 rpg in a pair of Liberty League contests over the weekend. He produced his best numbers of the season in Saturday’s 65-56 win over St. Lawrence, posting season-highs of nine points and seven rebounds. Ruddy was 2-of-5 from the floor and 7-of-11 from the free throw line in the two games.
The only first-year to appear in every game for Hobart this season, Ruddy is averaging 3.4 ppg and 3.2 rpg, and shooting 48.1 percent from the floor.
Rehbaum averaged 18.5 ppg, 6.0 rpg, and 3.0 apg against Clarkson and St. Lawrence. On Friday in a 66-56 loss to the Golden Knights, he recorded a team-high 17 points and pulled down six rebounds. The following afternoon against the Saints, Rehbaum shared game-high honors with 20 points and four assists while also grabbing six boards. For the weekend, he shot 50 percent from the floor with four 3-pointers and 87.5 percent from the line.
Rehbaum has started every game this season and leads Hobart in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (6.3 rpg), and steals (0.9 spg). He’s shooting 39.6 percent from the floor, 32.4 percent from 3-point range, and 71 percent from the free throw line. Rehbaum is sixth in the league in 3-point shooting percentage and 3-pointers made per game (2.0), ninth in scoring, and 13th in rebounding.
The three-year starter needs 97 more points to become the 27th Statesman to record 1,000 for his career.
Hobart (6-5, 1-1) is back on the court on Tuesday, Jan. 13, when the Statesmen visit RIT (7-5, 2-2). The Liberty League game is scheduled to tipoff at 8 p.m.
