Wing named Liberty League Performer of the Week

Hobart College first-year Divine Wing was named the Liberty League Men’s Squash Performer of the Week by the conference office this afternoon.  This is the second time this season that Wing has been honored by the conference. He was named Rookie of the Week after posting a 2-2 record at the Navy Invitational.

The Statesmen posted a 1-1 record this week. On Tuesday, Hobart beat Hamilton 6-3. It was the Statesmen’s first victory over the Continentals since the 2004-05 season when they beat them twice. On Saturday, the Statesmen fell 8-1 to Cornell.

Wing posted a 1-1 record on the week playing at No. 7 in both matches. Against Hamilton, he defeated David Laub, 13-11, 8-11, 11-5, 8-11, 11-6. Wing’s victory helped give Hobart an early 2-0 lead in the match. Against Cornell, he was the only Statesman to push his match to five games. First-year Jack Shannon won his match when his opponent retired after the second game due to injury. Wing beat Andrew Stone in the first two games, 12-10, 11-9, before dropping the match’s final three.

Wing is currently second on the team in wins with nine. He has played at Nos. 3-7 so far this season and is 5-2 when playing at No. 4.

Hobart returns to the courts at the Smith Squash Center on Saturday, Feb. 14. They host the University of Western Ontario at noon.
