For the second straight week, William Smith College sophomore Caroline Conboy was named the Liberty League Women’s Swimmer of the Week. Conboy set two meet records this past weekend at the Skidmore Invitational.
Conboy won three individual events and was a member of a winning relay for the Herons on Saturday. She teamed up with first-year Katie Storch, senior Samantha Burnett and sophomore Kelsey Bohl to post a winning time of 1:55.00 in the 200-yard medley relay. Conboy’s first individual win of the day came in the 50 breaststroke. She touched the wall first, a second faster than Anna Kuo of Vassar. In the 100 individual medley, she set a meet record with a winning time of 1:02.74. She out touched the previous record holder, Julia Cunningham of Vassar, by 41 hundredths of a second. Conboy also set a meet record in the 100 breaststroke. Her winning time of 1:07.66 lowered the 10-year old record by two seconds and outpaced the field by four seconds.
Conboy adds the two Skidmore Invitational records to her already impressive resume this season. She has had a hand in three school records, one Liberty League record and seven facility records. At the Liberty League Championships, Conboy was a two-time Liberty League Champion, winning the 100 and 200 breaststrokes. Her winning time of 1:04.59 in the 100 breaststroke earned her a NCAA “B” qualifying standard and is tied for the 10th fastest time in Division III this season. So far this year, she has participated in the 100 and 200 breaststrokes seven times and won all seven.
William Smith returns to the pool Feb. 18-21 for the 2015 Upper New York State Collegiate Swimming Association Championships.
