Hobart College sophomore goalie Jackson Brown was named the Northeast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Statesmen to a season-opening victory over MAAC preseason favorite Siena.
Making just his second collegiate start and third overall appearance, Brown looked like a seasoned veteran, recording a career-high 13 saves, including five in the second quarter, as Hobart posted a 12-8 victory. He finished the day with a .619 save percentage and his first collegiate victory. Brown also shared team-high honors with four ground balls.
The Statesmen’s 12 goals are tied for the most by an NEC team so far this season (Saint Joseph’s scored 12 against High Point). Hobart also produced league-high numbers in assists (6) and saves (13).
Hobart (1-0) is scheduled to make its 2015 Boswell Field debut on Saturday, Feb. 21, when the Statesmen host Cornell University (0-1). The opening faceoff for the 134th showdown against the Big Red is slated for 1 p.m.
