Herons ground Eagles 9-0 in first round of Epps Cup

The William Smith College squash team picked up a 9-0 win over Boston College in its first round match at the College Squash Association Team National Championship Epps Cup hosted by Harvard. The Herons improve to 13-5 this season.

William Smith will take on Mount Holyoke in a second round match tomorrow, Feb. 14 at 3:30 p.m. at Harvard. Mt. Holyoke topped Georgetown 8-1 in its first round match this afternoon.

Senior Molly Doran notched the Herons’ first win at the No. 9 spot this afternoon (11-6, 11-6, 11-8). Sophomore Brooke Hayes topped her opponent 11-5, 11-6, 11-1 at No. 6 to put William Smith up 2-0. First-year Michaelann Denton made it 3-0 after battling for an 11-6, 11-9, 7-11, 7-11, 11-3 victory at No. 3. Sophomore Justine Shank registered a 11-2, 11-4, 11-4 triumph at No. 8 and sophomore Delaney Teceno clinched the overall victory for the Herons with a 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-6 victory at the No. 5 spot. First-year Anna Worcester made it 6-0 with her win at No. 7 (11-6, 11-6, 11-7). Sophomore Allie Rubin earned a 3-1 win at No. 2 (8-11, 11-9, 11-5, 11-9). Senior Andrea Tran downed her Eagle competitor 11-5, 11-4, 11-6 at No. 4 and first-year Cashel McCarthy secured the sweep with a 11-3, 11-8, 11-3 win at the top spot.

William Smith is seeking its fourth CSA Cup, having captured the 2006 and 2007 Walker Cup and the 2009 Epps Cup.
