Perkins presents research on Forgiveness and Health in Post-College Life

Wesley Perkins, professor of sociology, presented a paper on “Forgiveness, Religious Commitment and Well-Being Among Young To Middle-Aged Adults” at the annual meetings of the Society for the Scientific Study of Religion and the Religious Research Association, Nov. 4-6 in Rochester.

He also presented a paper on “Religious Commitment, Egoistic Success Orientation, and Alcohol Abuse in the Post-Collegiate Life Course” at the same meetings.

These studies were based on data collected from Hobart and William Smith graduates from the classes of 1979, 1982, 1985, 1989, 1993, 1997 and 2001 who are participating in his ongoing Post-Collegiate Life Project. Surveys of graduates began in 1987 and have been repeated every 3-4 years with the same cohorts, providing one of the largest and longest studies of graduates in higher education.
