Hobart College senior attackman Alex Love was named the Northeast Conference Men’s Lacrosse Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Monday, March 30th.
For the second week in a row, Love scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Statesmen to a 7-6 NEC victory. One week after beating Bryant with his third goal of the game at the 1:44 mark of OT, he scored with 1:12 remaining in extra time at Robert Morris. Love completed his 23rd career hat trick with 35 seconds left in regulation against the Colonials, tying the game at 6-all. He had a hand in five of Hobart’s seven goals in the game, logging four goals and an assist.
Love leads Hobart with 16 goals, five assists, and 21 points. He’s also fourth on the team with 15 ground balls. Love has played in 51 career games, scoring 123 goals which rank 12th on the Statesmen’s all-time list. He is one behind No. 11 Ray Gilliam ’87 and eight shy of No. 10 Larry Adkinson ’62.
Saturday’s overtime game marked just the second time in the program’s 113 seasons that Hobart has played consecutive OT games and the first time the Statesmen won consecutive OT games.
Hobart is 5-3 overall, equaling last season’s win total. The Statesmen lead the NEC with a 2-0 record. It’s the first time Hobart has been 2-0 in conference play since 2004 when it opened Patriot League play with wins over Holy Cross 14-6 and Lehigh 11-4. The Statesmen haven’t begun league play 3-0 since 2003.
Hobart is back in action on Saturday, April 4, when it travels to Sacred Heart (4-3, 1-1) for an NEC game that starts at 1 p.m.
