Hobart College sophomore Jon Pate led the Statesmen at the Hershey Cup held at the par 71 Hershey Country Club on Sunday and today. The Statesmen improved their score by 13 strokes on Day 2 of the tournament.
Hobart finished in 15th place in the 36-hole tournament that featured nationally ranked competition. Pate finished tied for 73rd in a field of 87 golfers. He carded an 85 after his first 18 holes, just two strokes off his season-low. Pate recorded an 87 on Day 2 for a team-low score of 172 in the tournament. Senior Eric Mills was second tying for 76th place and first-year Sam Moise-Silverman was the next Statesman finishing tied for 79th place. Moise-Silverman’s second round score of 85 was a new season-low besting his previous low by two strokes. First-year Alex Grant was the fourth Hobart finisher, his Day 2 round of 82 was two strokes off his season best.
Franklin & Marshall (604) captured the team title finished 13 strokes ahead of second-place Skidmore (613). No. 23 St. John Fisher claimed third place (619). Carnegie Mellon’s George Qian took home the individual medalist honors with a one-under 141.
The Statesmen will be back in action April 18-19 at the Tim Brown Invitational in Ballston Spa, New York.
