Associate Hobart Dean Rocco “Chip” Capraro has been nominated by the City of Geneva Democratic Committee to succeed Councilor At-Large Gary Baxter on the city council.
Capraro is expected to be named to the position at Wednesday's city council meeting.
Capraro is a member of the city Planning Board and of the city's Downtown Overlay Committtee, which is looking at zoning and other issues in the Business Improvment District. He served as city counselor about a decade ago with councilors John Greco and Paul Schroeder when the Ramada Inn was developed along the lakefront and Guardian Industries came to Geneva.
Capraro has been described by board members as experienced and thoughtful. If appointed, he would serve for the next year before running for election in November 2006 and again in November 2007, when the four-year term ends.
Baxter, the lone Republican on city council, was elected Ontario County Treasurer last month and appointed by Gov. Pataki to take office immediately.
