The William Smith College lacrosse team swept this week’s Liberty League awards. Sophomore Alexandra Bird was named the Offensive Performer of the Week, sophomore goaltender Sarah Honan was tabbed the Defensive Performer of the Week and first-year Melissa Moore was selected the Rookie of the Week.
Bird led the Herons with 10 points in a 2-0 weekend. In a 10-6 win at Clarkson on Friday, she posted a game-high four goals and added two ground balls and two caused turnovers. On Saturday in an 11-10 win at St. Lawrence, Bird notched a game-high six points on five goals and an assist and added one draw. Bird leads William Smith with 40 goals and 45 points. She has added nine ground balls, five caused turnovers and 21 draws this season. She ranks fourth in the Liberty League in goals per game (2.86).
Honan played all 120 minutes in goal this weekend. She made a total of 26 saves, posted an 8.00 GAA and a .619 save percentage, and logged a team-high seven ground balls. On Friday, Honan made a career-high 17 saves and shared a game-high with four ground balls. On Saturday, she finished with nine saves and three ground balls. Honan is sporting a 10.53 GAA and a .494 save percentage this season. She leads the Liberty League in saves per game (9.31) and ranks second in save percentage.
Moore notched four goals, five ground balls, three draws and two caused turnovers in the Herons’ two wins. She scored a goal, shared a team-high with four ground balls and caused a turnover against the Golden Knights. The next day, Moore scored three goals, had one ground ball, one caused turnover and three draws. She has posted 20 points on 13 goals and seven assists this season. Moore has added 20 ground balls, nine caused turnovers and 18 draws.
The Herons will host Skidmore and Rensselaer this weekend for their final regular season games.
