The William Smith College rowing team’s varsity eight was named the Liberty League Boat of the Week by the conference office Monday, April 27th. On Friday, the Herons captured their fifth consecutive Liberty League Championship.
No. 11 William Smith’s varsity eight powered by Susan Tuvell, Anola Stage, Caroline DeWeirdt, Emily Andersen, Emma Dow, Karoline Loretan, Laurie VanBenschoten, Alex Belden, and Morgan Burgess crossed the line first to collected gold medals for the Herons. William Smith opened up a six-seat lead on No. 13 RIT in the first half of the championship final and held off the Tigers’ second half charge to win in 7:26.2, 1.2 seconds ahead of second place RIT.
