At the William Smith Athletics Awards Banquet on April 21, the Heron athletic department honored first-year Sophie MacCracken and sophomore Sara Keller. MacCracken received the Sharon Peckham Best ’62 Most Valuable Cross Country Award and Keller earned the Jack Warner Cross Country Coach’s Award.
MacCracken led the Herons across the finish line in all six races she competed in this season. She won the CCOC Championship, helping William Smith finish in third place as a team and posting her best 5k of 19:17.6. MacCracken came in second place at the Hobart Invitational, guiding the Herons to the team title. She ran her best 6k at the Liberty League Championships, crossing the line in 23:05.6.
Keller ran in nine meets for William Smith. She registered a career-best 5k time of 20:53.4 at the CCOC Championships, taking 22nd place out of 132 runners. Keller also logged a career-best 6k of 24:27.9 at the NCAA Regional Championships.
William Smith finished 16th out of 48 teams at the ECAC Championships and placed 28th out of 40 teams at the NCAA Atlantic Regional Championship, improving two spots on its finish from 2013. In addition, the Herons were named a U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division III Cross Country All-Academic Team for the 22nd year in a row.
