This summer, the American Red Cross in conjunction with Hobart and William Smith Colleges are hosting the Finger Lakes Aquatics Camp, which provides participants with comprehensive training and certification in several areas of lifeguarding and water safety. This is a rare opportunity to get all of the training necessary to be a lifeguard in just one place, during a short period of time and at a low cost.
The camp, which will take place on the HWS campus, will be held from Thursday, May 28 through Sunday, May 31. Registration for the camp is available online.
With summer on its way, this is an opportunity for young people to learn skills that can help them earn money, but important ones that they can use throughout their lives.
Aquatics Camp is an intense, residential training program that caters to those who plan to work at swimming pools, town recreation programs or summer camps and require the necessary training. The camp provides a range of courses to teach skills and knowledge that individuals will need to join or lead a lifeguard team. Instructor training programs will also provide additional leadership opportunities. The training will be held during a three-day session.
Participants can choose to receive specialized training in lifeguarding, water safety instruction, lifeguard instruction, lifeguarding with waterfront and responding to emergencies. The program includes training, books and materials, as well as three nights of on-campus lodging and three days of meals.
One-day courses will also be offered on Friday, May 29 and repeated on Saturday, May 30. Those courses include lifeguard review, waterfront skills review, CPR training, and more. These sessions include training, books, materials and lunch. Additional food and lodging options are available for those traveling greater distances.
The Finger Lakes Aquatics Camp will join a wide array of other summer camps held at HWS, including the Hobart Lacrosse Camp and William Smith Soccer Camp.
