David Ost, HWS professor of political science, was interviewed recently on the radio show “Beneath the Surface,” on KPFK-FM, a Pacifica Radio station in Los Angeles.
Ost talked about his recent book, “The Defeat of Solidarity,” and about recent developments in both Polish politics and in right-wing politics in Europe and America.
Ost, a member of the faculty since 1986, holds a doctorate from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He spent several years studying and living in Eastern Europe supported by a variety of nationally competitive fellowships, including Fulbright. During his tenure at the Colleges he has been awarded additional fellowships and has returned to do research in Poland and elsewhere in Eastern Europe on numerous occasions.
He is the author of two books on Polish politics and has written more than 40 articles for journals, and op-ed pieces for the New York Times and the Chicago Tribune. He has been featured on the BBC, PBS, the “McNeil-Lehrer Report” and on numerous major radio stations.
