Sharon Walsh, administrative assistant in the HWS Global Education office, recently published “Falling Awake” through www.Lulu.com, an on-demand self-publishing firm.
The novel tells the story of Jane, a patient who has been seeing Dr. Oberman — her therapist, guru and love object — hoping he can save her from a past she cannot bear to face.
When he gets too close to the truth, she takes off on a long-distance road trip through American towns and European capitals. But is the journey real or just a figment of Jane’s troubled psyche? As she travels, Jane muses on martyred saints, Freudian theory, Renaissance art and lost love.
“Falling Awake” has been described as a story about the messiness of life, the strength we attribute to particular events and the way one woman struggles to overcome the forces of her fate. It chronicles the damage people do to one another, deliberately and unwittingly, and it is ultimately about redemption and the power that we all possess to save ourselves.
