The Hobart College second varsity eight used a gold medal winning performance over the weekend to claim the Liberty League Men’s Rowing Boat of the Week Award on May 11th.
At the ECAC National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond on Sunday, Sky Drazek, John Hibbard, Tyler Steving, Davis Muller, Owen Monahan, D. Griffin Marsh, Mike Giroux, Nicholas Baca and Milos Milosavljevic secured the gold medal with a winning time of 6:22.138. The Statesmen distanced themselves from Michigan down the stretch, winning the grand final by 5.626 seconds. Bucknell was third followed by Wesleyan, WPI, and Williams.
Hobart progressed to the grand final by winning its morning heat by a healthy margin over a field that included Boston College, UMass, Tufts and Wesleyan.
This is the fifth Boat of the Week award earned by a Statesmen crew this season and first for the Hobart second varsity eight.
The Statesmen also medaled in the varsity eight (silver) and third varsity eight (silver) events.
