William Smith College oarswoman Caroline DeWeirdt was named an ECAC All-Star for her performance at the 2015 National Invitational Rowing Championships.
A senior tri-captain, DeWeirdt was in seven seat for the Heron varsity eight at the ECAC NIRC. The Herons’ top crew faced a talent-laden field in its heat, squaring off with No. 3 Wellesley, No. 4 Trinity, and No. 9 Wesleyan. William Smith finished fourth in the heat and progressed to the petite final, where it took third place.
Earlier in the spring, DeWeirdt helped the Herons win their fifth consecutive Liberty League Championship. She won a gold medal in the varsity eight at Liberty Leagues for the second year in a row, edging out runner-up RIT by 1.2 seconds. The William Smith 1V also posted a fourth place finish at the New York State Championships.
DeWeirdt and her crewmates earned three Liberty League Boat of the Week Awards this season. She capped an exceptional collegiate career, which included three NCAA Championship appearances, by winning William Smith’s Marion Harrison Greene ’20 Award, presented to an outstanding senior athlete that has made a significant impact on her team and William Smith Athletics.
DeWeirdt is one of 19 women named to the All-Star team by the ECAC and the NIRC Stewards. William Smith’s varsity eight was ranked 11th in the nation in the final CRCA/USRowing coaches poll.
