Hobart College senior W. Hunter Holtz was named a 2015 ECAC NIRC All-Star. He was one of 20 student-athletes named to the men’s team by the Eastern College Athletic Conference and the National Invitational Rowing Championship Stewards.
At the ECAC NIRC on May 10, Holtz rowed in two seat for the Statesmen varsity eight. Hobart won its morning heat by more than four seconds, posting the morning’s fastest time, to advance to the grand final. The final turned into a two-boat race between the Statesmen and Michigan. The Wolverines pulled away down the stretch to capture the gold, while Hobart crossed the line second, 10 seconds in front of third place Bates.
Holtz was a member of two Liberty League Boats of the Week this season in the varsity eight. The Statesmen 1V won a gold medal at the Liberty League Championship and a silver medal at the Knecht Cup. Holtz and the V8 also collected a silver medal this fall at the Head of the Charles. At the IRA National Championships, he sat in bow seat as Hobart’s varsity eight finished 16th overall among the nation’s top crews.
Holtz spent four years as a member of the 1V. He and his crewmates have been voted the Liberty League Crew of the Year four times. During his career, Holtz was a part of 18 Liberty League Boats of the Week, 16 of which came in the varsity eight.
Hobart will return to the water July 1 when it travels to England to compete in the Henley Royal Regatta. The Statesmen varsity eight will compete in the Temple Challenge Cup, while two fours will be entered into the Prince Albert Challenge Cup.
