Jemison earns preseason All-America honors

Hobart College linebacker Marcus Jemison was recently honored by D3football.com. The junior was named to the website’s 2015 preseason All-America second team.

In 2014, Jemison started 12 games for the Statesmen, accumulating 71 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks. He recorded at least three tackles in every game, including a season-high 12 takedowns in the win over Springfield. Jemison earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week after counting three sacks among his six tackles in the win at Rensselaer.

In the NCAA playoffs, Jemison rang up 20 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, and three sacks. He registered eight stops and a Hobart postseason game record 2.5 sacks in the first round win over Ithaca.

Jemison was a unanimous first team All-Liberty League selection and also garnered D3football.com third team All-East recognition.

In 23 career games, Jemison has 104 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and 9.5 sacks.

Hobart went 12-1 last season, matching the best record in program history. The Statesmen were ranked as high as No. 7 and finished the campaign at No. 9 in the D3football.com poll. In 2014, Hobart won its fourth consecutive Liberty League Championship and completed its third straight undefeated regular season.

The Statesmen advanced to the NCAA quarterfinal round with a 22-15 win over the Bombers and a 24-21 defeat of then No. 7 Johns Hopkins. Hobart is one of only eight Division III teams to appear in the NCAA Championship field in each of the past four seasons.

The Statesmen will kick off their 122nd varsity season on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Dickinson College. Hobart will make its 2015 Boswell Field debut the following week when it hosts Endicott College.
