The Hobart and William Smith Colleges sailing team opened the 2015 fall season at three regattas this past weekend. HWS competed at the Jack Boehringer ’52 Memorial Regatta, the Laser North, and the Radial Open.
In Ithaca, N.Y., HWS submitted two team entries. The Colleges first entry finished fourth overall, while the second entry finished 12th. Sophomore Greiner Hobbs and first-year Allison Hunger paired up to win the A division, finishing with 14 points. First-years Lindsey Kloc and Leah Trow finished 10th in B Division. The Colleges second team of first-year Charlie Miller and Kate Homet finished sixth, while first-year Christopher Manson-Hing and sophomore Elizabeth McCabe finished 12th.
At the Laser North in Kings Point, N.Y., sophomore Connor Swikart led the way for the Colleges. Swikart finished in eighth place. He collected seven top-10 finishes and placed in the top-three three times. Senior Chris Wilson finished in 10th, sophomore Noah Barrengos finished 15th and first-year Ryan Smithfinished 19th. The top six finishers at the Laser North qualify for the Carl Van Duyne MAISA Singlehanded Championship.
In Annapolis, at the Navy Radial Open, three sailors represented HWS. Junior Erin Condon led the way for the Colleges, finishing 13th. First-year Bailey Carter came in right behind her, finishing 14th while sophomore Sarah Warren ’18 placed 15th. The top 11 finishes at the event qualified for the Faye Bennet MAISA Women’s Singlehanded Championship.
HWS returns to the water Sept. 19-20, when it competes in Kings Point, N.Y. at the Nevins Trophy and in Throggs Neck, N.Y., at the N.Y. Maritime Open.
