The William Smith College soccer team moved up one spot to No. 5 in the nation in both the NSCAA poll and the D3soccer.com poll this week.
The Herons improved to 11-1-1 and 6-0-0 in Liberty League play with wins over Vassar and Bard this past weekend. William Smith now ranks fourth in the nation with a .846 shutout percentage, eighth with a 0.22 goals against average and 12th with a .900 save percentage. The Herons are also 17th in Division III in win percentage (.885).
First-year goalkeeper Kaileen Murray has played the majority of minutes in goal for William Smith and ranks first in the nation with a .957 save percentage. She’s second in Division III with a 0.09 goals against average. Senior forward Krista Longo, notched her second hat trick of the season against Bard, and now leads the team with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. First-year Sarah Olick-Sutphenhas posted a team-high six assists.
The Herons are back in action this weekend. William Smith hosts Clarkson (7-5-2, 0-4-2) for a Liberty League game on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 3 p.m., and then hosts Mount Saint Mary (11-5-1) for a non-league game at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25.
