Alumnae Send Word From Madagascar

Lisa Thorpe ’96, currently serving in the Peace Corps in the Fianarantsoa region of Madagascar, recently enjoyed a visit from friend and fellow-HWS grad Xiomara Hall ’97. The two traveled the country together for 16 days, including Christmas and New Years.

Lisa volunteered at both the Bronx Zoo and as a primate keeper at the Gibbon Conservation Center in Southern California. Her volunteer work at these two organizations inspired her to join the Peace Corps. Since joining the Corps, Thorpe has been located primarily in the village of Tolongoina located by the eastern forest corridor near Ranomafana National Park. Her work is in the environmental sector, but she is also doing health work at the local clinic 2 days a week.

Before joining the Corps, Thorpe worked for the Red Top Company and Oxford Health Plans.

Hall is in her 7th year teaching in New York City. She has also worked in the HWS Office of Admissions and as a legal assistant at Cadwalder Wickersham and Taft.
