Wood and Golson present at American Meteorological Society conference

Two William Smith sophomores, Laura Golson of Ross, Calif.; and Kathryn Wood of Sittville, NY, presented a paper at the 15th Symposium on Education, Jan. 29-Feb. 1, in Atlanta, Ga., sponsored by the American Meteorological Society.

Their paper, titled “Using an Active-Learning Quiz Series in an Introductory Meteorology College Course,” provided a discussion of results from research conducted in the fall of 2005 during an independent study.

The project assessed the usefulness of a simple and engaging active-learning tool for college introductory courses, specifically examining the use of the quiz series as a student self-assessment tool. The project was completed under the direction Professor Neil Laird of the Geoscience Department, and in collaboration with Professor Karen Feasel of the Psychology Department.
