Tracy Spates died Thursday

President Mark D. Gearan announced Friday morning that Tracy Spates passed away Thursday night at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.

“A valued and important presence on campus, Tracy and her husband, Professor Jim Spates of the anthropology/sociology department, recently returned from leading the program in Vietnam in the Fall Semester. She touched the lives of many our students, faculty and staff and was an active member of the Geneva community.

A celebration of Tracy’s life was held Sunday, Feb. 19 at the First United Methodist Church, with a reception afterward.

Memorial contributions may be made to Children’s Hours School, 90 Lewis St., Geneva 14456, where Tracy was co-director and teacher of art for many years. Donations may be earmarked for the Tracy Spates Scholarship Fund or the General Fund.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Jamie M. Spates '01; and a daughter, Lauren Spates. She was predeceased by a daughter.
