Erica McLaughlin ’16 has accepted a position with inbound marketing software platform HubSpot, a digital leader in helping companies become more adept at effectively reaching their customers through content creation and analytics tools.
McLaughlin will join HubSpot as a sales inbound coordinator, working with the team from the company’s headquarters in Cambridge, Mass. A sociology major, McLaughlin says she’s always been interested in understanding the way people think. She says her position at HubSpot will challenge her to determine how to best communicate with clients in order to make sales.
“Moving into the workforce, I’m prepared for anything they throw at me,” McLaughlin says. “My liberal arts education has prepared me well.”
McLaughlin first became aware of HubSpot during the summer of 2015, when she was a marketing intern at The MBA Tour, a third-party event planning company focused on matching prospective MBA students with business school admissions representatives.
“I really got to know HubSpot’s product and loved it,” she says.
When McLaughlin heard from the Salisbury Center for Career, Professional and Experiential Education that there was an open position with the company, she jumped at the chance to apply. McLaughlin says she was drawn to the company because of its emphasis on continued learning.
“HubSpot values people who are dedicated to life-long learning,” she says. “Hobart and William Smith have fostered that in me, and it’s a passion for me.”
On campus, McLaughlin is a member of Three Miles Lost, a sociology Teaching Fellow and a tour guide at the Office of Admissions.
Jean-Bernard Baptiste ’14 also works at HubSpot as a customer success manager.
