Hundreds of HWS alumni and alumnae are returning to campus this weekend, June 3-5, for Reunion 2016 to reconnect with classmates and celebrate all things Hobart and William Smith. The weekend will be packed with activities and celebrations, providing alums with the chance to catch up with old friends and explore new spaces on campus and in Geneva.
On Friday morning during the annual HWS Classic with special guest Christopher McDonald ’77, L.H.D. ’13, alums will have the chance to catch up over a round of golf. Alums can grab a bite to eat at Friday’s Welcome Luncheon in the Vandervort Room, which includes the Distinguished Faculty Award ceremony honoring Professor Emeritus of English Roger Farrand ’49, P’78, Professor Emerita of Biology Lois F. Nellis ’46 and Professor Emerita of Mathematics Ann B. Oaks ’74, P’84, P’85, P’89 for their outstanding contributions as teachers, mentors and scholars.
The newly constructed 65,000-square-foot Gearan Center for the Performing Arts opened this year and will host many of the weekend’s events, including an all Classes Reception with faculty, staff and coaches on Saturday evening. The Lunch and Reunion Forum on the Quad, the Finger Lakes Beer and Wine Festival, and the Reunion Gala on Saturday night are just a few of the many events that are open to all alums.
Other annual favorites, such as excursions on the William Scandling research vessel, the Reunion Parade, fireworks on the Quad and the always popular “mini college” courses, are scheduled for this year’s reunion. Guests will also have an opportunity to tour HWS Fribolin Farm, the Hanley Nature Preserve or visit St. Mark’s Tower. Plenty of athletic activities, including sunrise yoga, 5K runs and a 17-mile bike ride, are also on the agenda.
Reunion 2016 festivities conclude on Sunday with morning interfaith services in St. John’s Chapel and a farewell brunch on the Quad. For more information about registration, specific accommodations, and more, please visit the 2016 Reunion page.
