The William Smith College soccer team was ranked No. 1 in Division III in this week’s D3soccer.com poll, and moved up two spots to No. 2 in the first NSCAA of regular season.
The Herons are 4-0-0 to start the season, most recently topping preseason No. 3 Messiah 2-0 in Grantham, Pa., on Saturday. William Smith ranks 13th in the nation in total assists (15) and 14th in assists per game (3.75). The Herons are 23rd in scoring offense (4.00 g/gm), and 25th in points per game (11.75).
Senior Kara Shue leads William Smith with 11 points on four goals and three assists. Senior Brie Ruane and sophomore Megan Richard have each notched six points on two goals and two assists. Senior Ella McMackin shares the team-high with three assists. Sophomore Kaileen Murray has played the majority of minutes in goal and is sporting a 0.80 goals against average and a .600 save percentage. Classmate Veronica Romines played all 90 minutes in the win over the Falcons.
The Herons are back in action on Sept. 17 when they play the University of Rochester in the Upstate Collegiate Cup in Ithaca, N.Y.
