Alumna heads Connecticut charity

Catherine Brown Kalkstein ’92 has been named the director of the Fairfield County Fund for Women and Girls.

The Fund, part of the Fairfield County Community Foundation, was created by women to identify and address the needs of women and girls, educate women about philanthropy, and raise a permanent endowment to generate support for programs that foster the economic, educational, physical, and social growth of women and girls.

As director, Kalkstein has expanded the endowment to $7.5 million, making it the largest women’s fund in New England. She has worked to provide grants that support financial literacy and affordable housing for low-income working women.

Kalkstein is married to Jed Kalkstein ’91 and is the mother of two. The family lives in Trumbull, Conn. Both have been HWS Career Network volunteers.

She has previously worked as development director for My Sister’s Place, a women’s shelter in Washington, D.C. She serves as a literacy volunteer, and swims and skis competitively.
